The European Union Delegation to Argentina, Buenos Aires is looking for:

Secretary in the Cooperation Section.

We are

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to Argentina, Buenos Aires works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Argentina government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.

We offer

The post of Secretary (Local Agent Group 3) in the Delegation’s Cooperation Section. This team will consist of 6 people as from 01.09.2024, in addition to this post of Secretary.
Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The post requires, on occasion, atypical working hours.

The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Cooperation Section, providing support, expertise and assistance in the relevant field.

Following main tasks and duties are currently required: 

  • Ensuring reception and correct distribution of documents arriving to the Section;
  • Management of agendas;
  • Editing of documents and letters;
  • Classification and filing of correspondence and documents;
  • Management of correspondence of the Section (in Spanish/English);
  • Updating contact database for the Section;
  • General administrative tasks (archives, photocopies, missions, phone calls etc.);
  • Receiving external visitors for the section (meeting, interviews and appointments);
  • Organizing seminars, conferences, workshops etc. in accordance with the Section’s work programme;
  • Organization and logistical support to missions carried out in Argentina from HQ;
  • Relations with the Ministries & national stakeholders regarding cooperation agenda;
  • Replacement/Back-up for other Sections’ Secretaries in the Delegation when necessary;
  • Preparation of minutes of the meetings;
  • Support of communication and visibility actions;
  • Any other tasks in compliance with the instructions of the hierarchy.

The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience, typically starting from EUR 1.826.  There is a competitive benefits package, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days and public holidays, health insurance and a retirement savings plan.

The expected start date is 01/06/2024. 

Personal skills 

Self-starter, excellent organization skills, motivated, ability to work alone and/or in a team, respecting deadlines, ability to deal with stress situations and to respond quickly to new demands, performing tasks independently.

Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered)

  • High school diploma;
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience performing above-mentioned tasks;
  • Minimum  required language competences: Spanish – ability to understand C2, ability to read C2, ability to speak C2, ability to write C2, English – ability to understand B2, ability to read B2, ability to speak B2, ability to write B2;
  • Knowledge of IT tools (Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point), Webex, Zoom, Google Meet, as well as overall digital literacy.
  • Candidates must be either Argentinian nationals, or permanent residents in Argentina with a right to work at the date of application.
  • Good standing as citizen/resident
  • Medical fitness to carry out the tasks assigned

Assets / selection criteria (basis for awarding points to select the best applicant)  

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Level of language French – ability to understand B1, ability to read B1, ability to speak B1, ability to write B1;
  • Some knowledge of development cooperation activities
  • Knowledge/experience of EU policies, of international relations, of inner workings of the Argentina politics/media/economy

The process

After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose. The shortlisting of candidates will be based on the assessment of information provided in the cover letter and the CV. Between three and six best candidates will be invited to the final Selection stage, composed of a practical test and an interview.

Only short-listed candidates will be contacted.
