About The Ambassador
Her Excellency Fiona Ramsey currently serves as the Ambassador of the European Union to Barbados and the Ambassador Designate to the Eastern Caribbean. Her tenure began in September 2025.
With a distinguished career in international development and policy coordination, Fiona brings a wealth of experience to her diplomatic role. Her career with the European Commission, which began in 2005, has seen her in pivotal positions, including her recent role as Head of Unit for Effective Development Policy and Team Europe where she led significant initiatives such as the establishment of the Global Gateway secretariat and the Team Europe COVID-19 response.
Previous to this, Fiona was instrumental in managing EU cooperation portfolios in Cambodia, the Pacific Islands, and the Central African Republic, focusing on macro-economic stability, education and skills development, climate-proof infrastructure and regional integration.
Fiona's career began in the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development, where she specialised in urban development policy, after earning a Master's degree in Environmental Land Use Planning and a Bachelor's in Environmental Sciences from the University of Provence, Aix-Marseille, France. The Ambassador is fluent in English and French.
Born in Hong Kong, Fiona holds dual Belgian and British nationality. She is married and has two children.
