Message from the Ambassador

Dear visitors and friends of the European Union,

Welcome to the website of the Delegation of the European Union to Algeria. Thank you for your interest in our activities and in the cooperation between the EU and Algeria.

For almost 40 years, the EU and Algeria have developed rich and strong relations, which were further enhanced by the signing in 2002 of an Association Agreement aimed at promoting bilateral trade and bringing us closer together, benefiting from the achievements of European construction and based on a common commitment to democratic principles and human rights.

Since the entry into force of this Agreement in 2005, cooperation has deepened to reach a partnership that today touches a large number of dimensions of the daily life of our countries (justice, employment, energy, heritage, finance, etc.).

Through this multifaceted cooperation, the EU supports Algeria in its reforms and its development and modernisation process.

Algeria plays a very important role for Europe in all areas. Politically, commercially, economically and in terms of energy, it is a key strategic partner for the EU in the region and beyond. On the security front, it has proven experience and expertise.

I am delighted to be able to contribute to this privileged relationship and to do my utmost to develop it and make it last.

Mr. Thomas Eckert, Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union to Algeria.
