High Representative/Vice President Josep Borrell will travel to California on 12-16 May. The visit will provide an opportunity to reaffirm the strength and dynamism of the EU-US partnership as well as strengthen transatlantic cooperation in the field of technology and innovation. Throughout his visit, the HR/VP will have the opportunity to meet with different circles, namely political representatives, lead members of strategic private companies, academia and civil society.

On Monday, High Representative/Vice-President Borrell will deliver a keynote speech at the Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, as well as co-chair a fireside chat with Ambassador Michael McFaul. The speech will be available on EbS the following day.

Following his address, the High Representative will have a bilateral meeting with Condoleezza Rice, Director of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

The HR/VP will also visit NVIDIA and meet with its CEO, Jensen Huang.

On Tuesday, High Representative Borrell will visit the Waymo headquarter and meet with Michelle Peacock, Global Head of Policy at the company, as well as with Mr George Ivanov, Head of International Policy at Waymo. 

HR/VP Borrell is also due to deliver a keynote speech at the Europe Day Reception event, hosted by the San Francisco Office of the EU Delegation to the U.S. at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. The event will gather American academic, political and diplomatic community, government representatives of the EU Member States and other countries, as well as civil society and industry representatives. The speech will be accessible on EbS the following day. 

The High Representative is also expected to conduct bilateral meetings with some of the participants.

On Wednesday High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell will have a series of meetings with California’s legislators and local representatives. Notably, he will participate in a roundtable on Energy and Climate alongside Californian legislators, hosted by Californian State Senator Anna Caballero.

HR/VP Josep Borrell will have an exchange with Eleni Kounalakis, the Lieutenant Governor of California. Josep Borrell will also meet with Robert Rivas, Speaker of the California State Assembly.

On Thursday, amongst other meetings, High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell will meet with Jack Clark, the Co-Founder at Anthropic and Silvio Salvarese, Chief Scientist at Salesforce.
