Program for the support of Agricultural Sector Entrepreneurship (SESA)

Program aimed at structuring and strengthening the capacities of rural entrepreneurs to assist them towards a market logic.

The SESA program contributes to the creation of an agricultural added value and employment by strengthening rural entrepreneurship in Burundi.

With a budget of 17.6 million euros, the program is structured around four interconnected components that correspond to the four results expected by the action, namely:

1. The technical aspects related to the production, processing and marketing of agricultural products from the selected value chains are improved, by promoting the development of a circular green economy.

2. A complete training and support service for the empowerment and capacity building of entrepreneurs is developed.

3. Access to financing for rural businesses is improved.

4. Knowledge levels and adoption of good nutritional practices are increased.

Two contracts corresponding to the two main value chains Lot 1 - Banana, with honey and mushrooms as secondary value chains, and Lot 2 - Cassava, with poultry farming and vegetables as secondary value chains, were signed at the end of September 2023.

The direct final beneficiaries are estimated at nearly 2.5 million people and nearly 12,000 micro, small and medium enterprises will be supported by the program.
