EU in the Classroom

The Schuman Challenge

The Schuman Challenge is an annual foreign policy contest for undergraduate students in the United States and an opportunity to present and defend transatlantic policy recommendations in front of a panel of judges. The competition comprises two rounds: a preliminary round for all teams to present their policy proposals; three teams from the first round proceed to the finals. During their 10-minute presentations, each team (3-4 students) highlights their actionable proposals, followed by a 10-minute Q-and-A session with the judges. In 2023, 27 teams from 16 U.S. states competed at the EU Delegation office in Washington, D.C.

The Euro Challenge

The Euro Challenge competition is an exciting educational opportunity for American high school students to learn about the European Union and the euro. Student teams select one member country of the “euro area” to examine an economic problem at the country level, and to identify policies for responding to that problem. Teams compete at the regional and national level, with the top five teams receiving scholarship awards.

Model EU

EU simulations through Model EU are an excellent way for high school and college students to learn about how EU institutions work. Participants are invited to represent one of the EU Member States at a European Council meeting or act as a commissioner representing the European Commission. There are many ways to run Model EU – our toolkits will help you get started.
