On 14 November, Cornel Feruta, Chief Coordinator of the Director-General's Office of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), briefed the EU Political and Security Committee (PSC) on the areas of cooperation between the IAEA and the EU.
He also had a meeting with the Secretary General of the EEAS, Helga Schmid, who reiterated EU's strong support to the IAEA's overall work on non-proliferation, nuclear energy, nuclear safety, nuclear security, and technical cooperation as well as to the impartial and independent manner in which the IAEA conducts its work.
During the meeting with the PSC, Mr Feruta outlined the areas of work of the IAEA, in particular the activities in monitoring and verification of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The 13th consecutive IAEA report, issued on 12 November 2018, confirmed implementation by Iran of its nuclear related commitments under the JCPOA, which was welcomed. The JCPOA remains a cornerstone of the global nuclear non-proliferation regime, crucial for the security of the region, Europe, and the world.
