The High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini concluded her official visit to Mexico today, where she met with Mexico's Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard.

Among the topics discussed was the state of play of the modernisation of the EU-Mexico Global Agreement, which is now nearing completion with a view to sign the modernised agreement in the coming months. High Representative Mogherini and Foreign Minister Ebrard also discussed the "Comprehensive Development Plan" for Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Mexico. The Plan is currently being developed with the support of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and is due to be further discussed at a meeting in the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York. The EU has already contributed €7 million to the Plan and is considering additional financial support.

The High Representative and the Foreign Minister also discussed regional issues, including Venezuela and Nicaragua, and addressed the need to strengthen the multilateral system and to uphold a solid international rules-based architecture at the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation and other fora, at a time of instability and global challenges. They furthermore discussed the EU "Spotlight" project against femicide, which was launched in May in Mexico City.

High Representative Mogherini's visit to Mexico started on Tuesday with a meeting with Mexico's Interior Minister Olga Sanchez Cordero, during which they discussed issues such as migration, human rights and the fight against violence and insecurity.

During her visit, the High Representative also met with senators, civil society, university students and think tanks.

The visit is paving the way for next EU-Mexico high level meetings, including the High Level Human Rights Dialogue and Civil Society Seminar to be held in Mexico City later in 2019, the next EU-Mexico Joint Committee meeting, the next EU-Mexico High Level Political Dialogue.
