On 12-13 December, 2017 the Horizon 2020 Information Days were held in Astana and Almaty.

On 12-13 December, the Horizon 2020 Information Day was held in Astana and Almaty bringing together around 300 participants.  Ambassador, Head of the European Union Delegation to Kazakhstan Traian Hristea opened the event in Astana with welcoming remarks.

The main goal of the training was to raise awareness of European funding opportunities on research and innovation in Horizon 2020 in Kazakhstan, to discuss participation options, and to share lessons learnt and success stories of Kazakh participation in Horizon 2020.

Speakers of the Horizon 2020 Info Day in Astana included H.E. Traian Hristea, Ambassador, Head of the European Union Delegation to Kazakhstan, Dr. Kamila Magzieva, PhD, Director InExCB-KZ, National Coordinator H2020 NCP-KZ, Inclusive, innovative and reflective societies NCP-KZ, spreading excellence and widening participation NCP-KZ, Science with and for Society NCP-KZ, and Professor Neil Collins, Nazarbaev University, Kazakhstan, successful participant of Horizon 2020. In Almaty the event was warmly welcomed by Professor Olga Moskovchenko, Rector of the Kazakh-German University, and by Gediminas Ramanauskas, Policy Officer, Directorate General Research and Innovation, European Commission.

The main topics presented were:

  • Horizon 2020 – Open to the World: An introduction to Horizon 2020 – The EU Framework Programme for   Research and Innovation, and the benefits of participation for researchers from Kazakhstan;
  • Funding opportunities for international partners in Horizon 2020: Fitting the project idea (finding a call for proposal); Identifying suitable open calls, especially calls targeting non‐ European countries;
  • Networking: How to find suitable partners for Horizon 2020 proposals: This session gives an overview about networking platforms, how to find suitable partners and how to build a consortium, including best practice examples;
  • Success story in Kazakhstan project: H2020-EL-CSID-693799,  European Leadership in Cultural, Science and Innovation Diplomacy;
  • Implementation of the results of the Seventh Framework Program projects in Kazakhstan
  • Proposal preparation and submission: how to decode a call text, how to prepare and submit a competitive proposal, and how to avoid common pitfalls
