High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini hosts US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Brussels for bilateral meeting
Today in Brussels, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, met with the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo. The meeting was an opportunity for the two to discuss a number of common pressing foreign and security issues.
They discussed the ongoing work for the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, the situation in Ukraine, the prospects for peace in Afghanistan, the conflict in Syria, the recent developments in Iraq, the support to the G5 Sahel countries and the EU's continued commitment to the Iran nuclear deal.
Their bilateral meeting was followed by the 8th EU-US Energy Council, which was co-chaired by High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini, Commission Vice-President Šefčovič, Commissioner Arias Cañete, Secretary of State Pompeo and Secretary of Energy Perry.
