The EU-NZ Partnership Agreement for Relations and Cooperation (PARC) is now under provisional application, following the publishing in the Official Journal of the European Union on 11 November 2016 of European Council's decision to authorise the signing of the Agreement.

EU HR/VP, Federica Mogherini, and the New Zealand Foreign Minister, Hon Murray McCully, signed the PARC on 5 October 2016 in Brussels. Full application of the PARC will take place once the internal ratification processes are completed in New Zealand and the EU.

PARC provides a comprehensive framework for a more effective bilateral engagement between the European Union, its Member States and New Zealand. It is the first political framework agreement signed between the two parties and will strengthen political dialogue and cooperation on economic and trade matters. It will also boost cooperation across a wide range of other areas, from science and innovation, education and culture, to migration, counter terrorism, the fight against organised crime and cybercrime, as well as judicial cooperation.

The Agreement not only reflects "(…)the breadth and depth of our existing relationship, but demonstrates that we want to expand our partnership over the coming decades." HR/VP Mogherini said at the day of signing.
