The project "Lebanese civil society combating for a plastic free Mediterranean Sea" aims at reducing the impact of marine litter and microplastics pollution on marine biodiversity, public health and the livelihoods of people who earn a living from the sea.

The project Lebanese civil society combating for a plastic free Mediterranean Sea (June 2018-June 2020; EUR 994,993), financed under the programme ProMARE, aims at reducing the impact of marine litter and microplastics pollution on marine biodiversity, public health and the livelihoods of people who earn a living from the sea. Implemented by the two largest Lebanese environment NGO coalitions, the Lebanon Eco Movement (main applicant) and the Lebanon Environment Forum (co-applicant), the project consists in three work packages: Work Package 1: Financial support to third parties; Work package 2: Policy change and advocacy;  Work package 3: Awareness raising.

The work package 1 consists in the provision of financial support (grants of maximum EUR 60,000; budget available EUR 500,000) to entities that do not have the capacities to access funds typically provided by international donors. Are eligible (1) non-profit organisations managing less than EUR 120,000 euros per year and have been established for more than 3 years (2) for-profit organisations that have been established for less than 3 years and have a turnover of maximum EUR 120,000. Municipalities and universities are eligible as co-applicants.
