On 30 May 2019, the Medal Parade Ceremony of EUAM Iraq was celebrated to commend and thank 19 staff members for their effort and their dedication to the mission. The parade was attended by numerous distinguished guests, including Ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from the EU Delegation and EU countries, US Embassy, NATO Mission in Iraq, the Ministerial Liaison Team of the Global Coalition against Daesh, UNDP, and representatives from the Iraqi Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event featured speeches from the Head of EU Delegation, representatives of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and EUAM Head of Mission Markus Ritter. In their remarks, all speakers emphasized the key role the EU plays in Iraq and praised the medal recipients for their commitment and determination to advance the Mission’s objectives and contribute to give Iraq and its people the future and peace they deserve.

The medals given may be awarded to all civil and military personnel who have participated in an EU-led Crisis Management Operation (CMO) within the scope of Title V of the Treaty of the European Union (TEU) upon evaluation of merit. They are given on behalf of the High Representative/Vice President of the Commission (HR/VP), H.E. Federica Mogherini, and the delegated authority through CivOpsCdr to the Head of Mission to hand them over to the staff.

Congratulations to our 19 colleagues. It is one more milestone, one more well-deserved recognition in their distinguished careers. We look forward to new achievements in cooperation with the Iraqi people and government, and our international partners – on behalf of the EU Member States and the European External Action Services.
