The European Commission’s European Civil protection and Humanitarian aid Operations (ECHO), funds relief operations for victims of natural disasters and conflicts outside the European Union. For humanitarian aid, the Commission works with about 200 operational partners, including United Nation agencies, the Red Cross/Crescent movement and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Aid is channelled impartially, straight to victims, regardless of their race, ethnic group, religion, gender, age, nationality or political affiliation.

 

The ECHO Regional Office in Amman, which is covering the ME & EN region; is seeking to recruit one national staff to be based in Amman for the following position of:

 

Information & Communication Assistant (ICA)

As a part of the Jordan country team, the ICA will carry out activities such as:

  • Help prepare materials for the ECHO website, social media channels and publications. Edit external reports and information products.
  • Help organize visits with key local and foreign media to ECHO-funded projects.
  • Set up and update a database of media contacts in the region. Liaise and maintain regular and proactive contacts with the international and local press.
  • Draft press releases and media briefing materials.
  • Help track, inform and monitor partner visibility obligations, and advise partners on their visibility plans and communication strategies.
  • Provide relevant advice and support to ECHO country teams and partners.
  • Participate in the formulation of communications work plans.
  • Provide EU Delegations in the region with ECHO information material.
  • Manage visibility material stocks (inventory and orders), draft specifications, identify suppliers, follow-up on production/distribution.
  • Monitor and control the use of the visibility budget line.

 

The candidates for this position need to demonstrate the following criteria:

  • A relevant first level university degree or equivalent professional experience;
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant working experience at national or international level in public relations, journalist, advocacy or corporate communications. If the candidate does not have a relevant university degree, ten years’ work experience will be required;
  • Experience in the use of computers and office automation software (MS Word, Excel, etc.);
  • Experience in publishing, marketing or graphic design;
  • Experience in conceptualizing and managing the production of communication material. Demonstrated experience in developing content that clearly communicates development ideas and experiences for media, web, print production, and audio-visual productions;
  • Excellent drafting skills;
  • Experience in overseeing translations work;
  • Previous experience with a multilateral or international organisation is an advantage;
  • Ability and willing to work in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Flexibility to travel to all the countries included in the ME & EN region;
  • An excellent command of English & Arabic language (oral and writing).

This is a local posting for nationals open to other residents of Jordan with a valid work and residence permit. The contract is initially for one year with the possibility of renewal subject to a 6 months’ probationary period. As an indication, the monthly basic salary is on average approximately JOD 1,647 which corresponds to 5 years relevant work experience. The salary will be adapted according to the exact duration of relevant professional experience supported by a work certificate. In addition to this, the employee will also receive disability/retirement allowance, 13th month salary as well as a medical coverage.
