On Saturday, September 21, 2019, on the International Coastal Clean-Up Day, over 750 volunteers joined the EU Delegation in Liberia, and actively participated in a beach clean-up in King Gray, Paynesville, near Monrovia, as part of the EU's global efforts to promote a clean and safe environment, especially the oceans, and raise awareness on the global challenge of marine litter.
On the International Day of Peace, the European Union reaffirms its commitment to peace and security, to human rights and sustainable development for all, to international cooperation and to the rules-based international order with the United Nations at its core. Sustainable peace has always been and will remain at the centre of the European Union's external action, as restated in the Global Strategy.
A high-level European Union delegation will be in New York for the 74th United Nations General Assembly next week. The EU representatives will host and participate in a large number of events and meetings with world leaders. The EU continues to be a leader in global cooperation: joining forces with partners in support of multilateralism to uphold and promote international law and human rights, to support peace and democracy, to promote sustainable development and to stand side-by-side with people in need all over the world.
