Model European Union 2020 concludes with Presidency Conclusion, and selection of 3 award winning students

The Delegation of the European Union (EU) to the Republic of Korea (ROK) successfully hosted the Model European Union (MEU) 2020, a simulation of the Council of the European Union. The event was co-hosted by the three Jean Monnet EU Centres of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), Yonsei University and of Korea University.

The simulation of the Council of the European Union took place with 39 talented students from 16 universities across South Korea playing the roles of two EU Commission representatives, Secretariat of the Council of the EU representatives, national ministers for environment and climate change of the 27 Member States of the EU, 8 journalists and more interested parties.

Independent jurors selected the three best performing students who will be sponsored to participate in a European university summer school for two weeks in 2021. They are the Yoonki Lee and Yerin Boo (EU MS delegates), and Mochamad Alvin Dwiana Qobulsyah (Journalist).

Three students were also selected by each of the Jean Monnet Centres of Korea University, Yonsei University and HUFS, with Special Mention. They are Hyung Bin Park and Jihun Park (MS delegate), and Gaeun Park (Rotating President).

President In Chul Kim of HUFS expressed his impressions of MEU2020 saying, “I am delighted that students have gained invaluable lessons about how to solve serious issues through understanding, criticizing and learning from each other through this experience,” and applauded the outstanding performance of the MEU2020 students.

HE Ambassador of the EU to the ROK Maria Castillo Fernandez expressed her impressions of MEU2020 and the participating students by saying, “This was an exceptional year that posed tremendous challenges and I am encouraged to see that so many enthusiastic Korean students participated. The passion they have shown in pursuing their educational goals by participating in MEU2020 to learn about the European Union will be an inspiration to others,” and added her congratulations to all participating students.
