The civilian CSDP Missions are deployed in Africa, Middle East and the wider European neighbourhood. Their presence is aimed, through capacity building, advising and monitoring, to improving the respect of human rights and gender equality and to increasing overall security, strengthening local rule of law capacities and assisting partners in their security sector reform.
As part of EU's Integrated Approach, the civilian Missions work hand in hand with the EU's diplomatic and mediation efforts, military CSDP engagement, as well as, development cooperation and humanitarian aid.
The EU's joined-up approach, the close cooperation on the ground between the different EU and Member State actors, enhances the impact of EU action. It adds leverage and makes the EU a robust partner contributing significantly to global peace and security. The efficient cooperation with the other members of the EU family such as the EU-delegations, OLAF or TAIEX, was an important element of the discussion.
Promoting global stability, assisting our partners in addressing their security challenges and enhancing their resilience is a key component of EU's DNA. The civilian CSDP Missions play an important role hereby and in this respect the Secretary General Schmid also expressed deep appreciation for the work of approximately 2.000 men and women currently deployed in these missions.
