Speech on behalf of High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini at the European Parliament plenary session urgency debate on cases of breaches of human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Russia, notably the situation of environmental activists and Ukrainian political prisoners

17 July unites all those who wish to support justice, promote victims' rights, and help prevent crimes that threaten the peace, security and well-being of the world. "We shall never forget atrocities from the past but rather keep them as part of our collective human memory and determination to prevent future conflicts and genocides. That is why the EU contributes each year to the promotion of international criminal justice," stated EU High Representative Federica Mogherini on behalf of the EU, on the occasion of International Criminal Justice Day.

As we mark the International Criminal Justice Day, the European Union reaffirms its longstanding support towards the international criminal justice system and in particular its unwavering commitment to the International Criminal Court (ICC), as part of the EU's wider commitment to a rules-based international order.
