EU-Eritrea Article 8 Political Dialogue in Asmara
As part of our intensifying exchanges, a new round of the EU-Eritrea Article 8 Political Dialogue took place on November 4 in Asmara. This was already for the second time this year that the EU side met with the Eritrean Government in this format to exchange views in an open and constructive way on issues of common interest and concern. The EU side, chaired by the EU Ambassador included resident and also non-resident Member State' Ambassadors; that of Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Sweden. The Eritrean delegation was led by Mr Yemane Gebreab, Political Advisor to the President, and included senior representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This round of the Political Dialogue has again proven its worth as a platform to get updated in a comprehensive manner on issues of common concern, including regional developments, reform plans in the economy, human rights, migration, the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation; offer an opportunity to get acquainted with longer term aspirations; and further refine areas where partnership can be sought. The meeting was held in a very friendly atmosphere and allowed for a frank and open discussion, contributing to a positive engagement between the EU and Eritrea.
