Two members of the ESDC staff attended a Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) organised by the European External Action Service. The training focused on awareness, recognition and prevention of dangerous or unwanted situations. In total, 20 people from the EU institutions received briefings about first aid, dealing with aggression, stress management and personal security. The knowledge acquired was applied in several exercises and role-plays.
The presentation of the new Global Strategy for the EU's foreign and security policy in June 2016 kick started a process of closer cooperation amongst Member States in the field of security and defence. This subsequently led to the adoption of the so-called "defence package" which consists of various different instruments and measures to cope with today’s threats and security challenges.
