Brussels

On 26 November 2019, the Republic of Kiribati deposited its instrument of accession to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC). This accession testifies to Kiribati's commitment to strengthening the rule of law and protecting human rights.

The International Criminal Court is a key institution to assist victims achieve justice when confronted with the most serious crimes, where this is not possible at the national level. We all have a shared interest in working together with the ICC.

All States that have not yet done so should accede to the Rome Statute. Every single country counts. Every single accession to the Rome Statute brings us closer to universal participation and strengthens our resolve to end impunity for the most serious crimes.

The European Union and its Member States remain staunch supporters of the International Criminal Court and are committed to full co-operation on the prevention of serious crimes falling under the jurisdiction of the Court.
