Press releases

The 2019 EU-China Research & Innovation Stakeholders Tour of China was officially launched today in Jinan, Shandong Province, by Ambassador of the European Union to China Mr. Nicolas Chapuis. It is the 6th edition of an ambitious awareness raising campaign through 10 cities across China. The Tour seeks to highlight opportunities proposed to Chinese researchers and innovators by EU Member States and Delegation of the European Union to China instruments to collaborate with European researchers and innovators, while promoting Europe as a key global destination for research, innovation and knowledge-creation.

Speaking at the launch event in Jinan, EU Ambassador Chapuis said: "This Tour is now a well-established roadshow to showcase opportunities for joint research between European and Chinese scientists. We expect that this joint endeavour between the European Union and its Member states together with the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology well help develop mutually beneficial and fair collaboration in research and innovation, in particular through Horizon 2020."

Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly 80 billion euro of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020). For more information, please visit: https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/horizon2020/en/what-horizon-2020

The Tour will demonstrate opportunities for creating win-win solutions offered by national and EU-level funding programmes.  It aims to foster better knowledge and understanding of European policies and instruments, which will greatly facilitate the success for joint research and innovation projects and endeavours. The Tour is a symbolic visible sign of joint efforts between the Delegation of the European Union to China, the Embassies and Consulates of EU Member States and Countries Associated to the Framework Programme based in China, as well as their key Chinese partners:  the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the China Science and Technology Exchange Centre (CSTEC). The Tour aims to reach out to a targeted audience composed of research and innovation stakeholders, local authorities and disseminators in research and innovation, top scientists and decision makers, professors, deans, doctoral and post-doctoral students, as well as the private sector and business representatives, in particular SMEs, involved in research and innovation activities.

Each Tour event is tailored to provide a unique set of lectures and presentations promoting different research and innovation programmes. Moreover, attendees of the Tour events will be given opportunities to exchange views face-to-face with select European representatives. Highlights of each Tour seminar are inspiring testimonials from former or current participants engaged in EU-level or EU Member State/Associated Country national collaborative research programmes. The 2019 Tour follows on from successful previous editions which attracted more than 2000 interested and experienced Chinese stakeholders all over the country for the last edition alone.
