The close relationship between the European Union and Mozambique encompasses partnerships at bilateral, regional and global level. In its co-operation with Mozambique, the EU has been an active supporter of peace and security, as well as a leading actor in trade, investment, development cooperation and humanitarian aid.
On 26-27 March, EU High Representative Mogherini is in Uzbekistan to open the international Tashkent Conference on Afghanistan: "Peace process, security cooperation and regional connectivity". The conference brings together Afghanistan, the five Central Asian countries, the United Nations and other stakeholders to support peace-making efforts in the country, as well as local and regional development.
The European Union supports Nigeria's efforts to fight terrorism and improve security in northern Nigeria, where conflict with Boko Harram has claimed tens of thousands of lives. European Commissioner Karmenu Vella today presented the work of the EU in Nigeria to the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) as part of an "urgency" debate on human rights, democracy and rule of law in the country.
