EU Ambassador to Montenegro Oana Cristina POPA paid a visit to the municipalities of Rozaje and Berane on Thursday, as part of her first working visit to Montenegro's underdeveloped northern region.
After meeting with the leaders of the local self-governments, the EU Ambassador talked with beneficiaries of the EU funded projects in the two municipalities. "We are aware of the challenges that local communities are facing and I am glad that the European Union is helping these regions in many ways. We will continue to support projects in the north of Montenegro and contribute to a more balanced regional development of the country," said the Ambassador.
In Berane, Ambassador Popa visited residential buildings built as part of the Regional Housing Project, funded by the EU with € 3.5 million, which provided housing for displaced persons who had lived in difficult conditions for many years. In Rozaje, she talked to the beneficiaries of an EU-funded cross-border cooperation project that helped Rozaje artisans to learn new skills and market their products better.
During the visit to the municipalities of Rozaje and Berane, the head of the EU Delegation donated 30 computers to pupils and students from underprivileged families, as well as to the Regional Housing Project beneficiaries.
