Traineeships in Delegations

Are you curious to learn more about the work in a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Timor-Leste?  

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations?

Do you have a degree in international relations, political science, economics, media and communication or any other relevant subject?

Do you have an excellent command of English and Tetum (written and oral)?

Do you also speak Portuguese?

Do you know how to work with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)?


What do we offer?

A paid traineeship of up to 6 months within the Political, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Timor-Leste to start in November 2020.


Main tasks:

  • Supporting the Section team in drafting reports, researching and analysing specific policy topics related to EU / Timor-Leste relations.
  •  Attending events organised by the EU Delegation and/or its partners.
  • Preparing press and information materials for their publication on our website, social media profiles, TV, radio and local press (drafting, translating, proof-reading of documents in English, Tetum and Portuguese).
  • Assisting in the organisation for public diplomacy events across the country.
  • Providing back-office support for the section staff (answering requests, taking notes, preparing meetings, etc.).

The selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to accommodation and insurance must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.

The Delegation informs that the traineeship could be postponed, suspended or even cancelled considering the very evolving context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
