30 November 2019, Tbilisi – Georgian tea, honey, wine, whiskey and handicrafts, produced by local EU funded projects, were for sale at the EU stand at “2019 Winter Fair” held at Sheraton Grand Metechi Palace in Tbilisi on Saturday, 30th November. The Winter Fair is an annual charity fundraising event organized by the International Women's Association Georgia (IWA). The funds raised within the Fair are spent in support of people in need through various projects.

This year, Delegation of the European Union to Georgia joined the Winter Fair with EU funded products from agricultural and rural development projects supported under the ENPARD programme in different regions of Georgia. Over 30 varieties of goods, including tea, honey, wine, whiskey, chacha and handicrafts, were sold throughout the day. About GEL 1,000 and remaining agricultural products were contributed to IWA for the charity cause.

“We were very pleased that the EU took part in the Winter Fair this year. It gave our visitors the opportunity not only to buy high quality products from interesting Georgian producers but also to see some examples of the EU’s extensive support to Georgia.”  - said Mrs. Mette Hartzell, IWA Board Member and CPC Co-Chair.

IWA Georgia was initiated in 1996 by a group of expatriate and Georgian women living in Tbilisi and since then has supported women, children and elderly people who are at risk due to poverty, poor health and disabilities. The Winter Fair originally started as a showcase for Georgian artisans and craftsmen. 1999 IWA Georgia started to invite embassies and international organizations to participate along with the Georgian artisans.

This year, 27 embassies and international organizations were presented with respective national products and food, more than 150 Georgian artisans sold their artwork and over 3500 persons visited the fair.
