On the occasion of this 20th EU-China Summit, the two sides celebrated the 15th anniversary of the EU-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This has greatly enhanced the level of EU-China relations, with fruitful outcomes achieved in politics, economy, trade, culture, people-to-people exchanges and other fields. The Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their partnership for peace, growth, reform and civilisation, based on the principles of mutual respect, trust, equality and mutual benefit, by comprehensively implementing the EU-China 2020 Strategic Agenda for Cooperation.

The European Union proposes investing €16 billion in the period 2021-2027 to further enhance Europe's leadership in space. This new space programme, with a budget 50% higher than that of the previous 7 year period, will reinforce the EU as a world space player successfully competing with both other state and private-sector space actors.

The directive improves energy efficiency in buildings and encourages building renovation. Decarbonising the existing, highly inefficient European building stock is one of its long term goals. It promotes cost-effective renovation work, introduces a smartness indicator for buildings, simplifies the inspections of heating and air conditioning systems and promotes electro-mobility by setting up a framework for parking spaces for electric vehicles.

The 5th Eastern Partnership Summit took place today in Brussels. The leaders of all 28 Member States - together with Presidents Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker as well as EU High Representative Federica Mogherini - participated in the Summit with the six Eastern Partnership countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. At the Summit, leaders took stock of progress made since the Riga Summit in 2015, with a focus on the tangible impact the partnership brings to eastern partner citizens.

A €50 million programme will support the access of Tanzanian citizens to affordable and sustainable energy through extending energy grids as well as expanding distribution networks.
