European Union Election Follow-up Mission (EU EFM) to Uganda, 26 February – 17 March 2018

Upon the invitation of the authorities, the EU deployed an Election Follow-up Mission (EFM) led by Member of European Parliament, Mr. Eduard Kukan, former Chief Observer of the EU EOM deployed for 2016 elections, met a wide range of Ugandan and international stakeholders, to assess the current electoral reform process and the extent to which previous EU election-related concerns and recommendations have been addressed in recent years.

The Final Report, which offers 23 recommendations for consideration to the Liberian authorities, notes that despite the delay experienced in the holding of the second round of the presidential race, the election resulted in the first transfer of power from one elected government to another through a competitive multi-party system.

MONROVIA 26 April 2018 –Announcing the release of the Final Report the EUEOM Liberia 2017 Chief Observer Maria Arena, Member of the European Parliament from Belgium, noted: “The elections in Liberia marked a defining moment in the strengthening of Liberia’s democratic institutions.” 

The European Union Election Observation Mission in Paraguay 2018 issued its preliminary statement on the 22 April general elections. 

On 22 April, Paraguayans voted in six elections to elect the president and vice-president, the Congress (Senate and Chamber of Deputies), governors, members of departmental assemblies and Parlasur representatives. Voting took place in an organised and calm atmosphere with polling stations following procedures that ensured the integrity and transparency of the process.

 

 

A second group of 34 short-term observers was deployed to all departments of Paraguay to reinforce EU EOM's presence towards the observation of the Election Day on Sunday, 22 April.

The European Union Election Observation Mission – Paraguay 2018 attended this morning the third and last Preliminary Electoral Results Transmission (TREP, for its acronyms in Spanish) organised by the Superior Tribunal of Electoral Justice (TSJE) in view of the general elections next April 22

A second group of 34 short-term observers arrived to Paraguay today to strengthen the work of the European Union Election Observation Mission who are working in the country since last March 13.
