Upon the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Timor-Leste, the EU deployed an Election Expert Mission (EEM), composed of a political-electoral analyst and a legal analyst to assess the early legislative elections on 12 May 2018.
All parties must now complete this electoral process in the calm and responsible spirit shown so far, while awaiting the announcement of the final results by the Constitutional Court. Any challenges to the results must be made peacefully and through the legal channels set up for addressing grievances.
Improved political climate, inclusive participation rights and a peaceful vote, but un-level playing field, intimidation of voters and lack of trust in the process undermined the pre-election environment. We now hope for a transparent and traceable results process
The EU EOM Paraguay 2018 conducted a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the prime-time coverage of a sample of Paraguayan media outlets. The monitoring of broadcast and print media was conducted from 21 March to 21 April 2018 and assessed both the amount of time and space devoted to each candidate contesting the election, as well as the tone of the coverage in which the relevant political actors have been portrayed.
