In statements to the local press, the deputy head of the Election Observation Mission, Tania Marques, said that the European Union aims, among others, to observe all aspects of the elections: the pre-election period, the official declaration of results, and the post-election process. She also expressed that there is no specific situation in which observers put more emphasis, since the electoral process is very dynamic and all issues are of importance to the election experts.
Marques added that “the first public statement by the Mission about the process will be held days after the elections.” Finally, the expert commented that they are interested in knowing the concerns or difficulties of the citizens, the movements and political parties, including the electoral administration, taking into account that at the end of the mission, the observers make a series of recommendations to the Paraguayan state to continue improving the electoral process in the country.
The deputy head of the European observers met with the president of the Departmental Tribunal of Alto Paraná, Mr. Francisco José Zacarías Cubilla, and in the afternoon met with candidates from different political parties and movements that fight for the different elective positions in the department of Alto Paraná.
