Ukraine is a priority partner for the European Union (EU). The EU supports Ukraine in ensuring a stable, prosperous and democratic future for its citizens, and is unwavering in its support for Ukraine’s independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty. The Association Agreement (AA), including its Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), is the main tool for bringing Ukraine and the EU closer together, promoting deeper political ties, stronger economic links and respect for common values. Since Spring 2014, Ukraine has embarked on an ambitious reform programme, aiming to stabilise its economy and improve the livelihoods of its citizens. Priority reforms include the fight against corruption, reform of the judiciary, constitutional and electoral reforms, improvement of the business climate and energy efficiency, as well as reform of public administration, including decentralisation. Since 2014, the EU and the European Financial Institutions have mobilised a package of more than €15 billion in grants and loans to support the reform process, with strong conditionality on continued progress.

“It is crucial to find ways to address inequalities and foster inclusion in order to create conditions for sustainable peace and stability. And inclusion is not just socio-economic, because political inclusion is just as important. It should make people feel they are fully part of society and that they can help shape the future of their society”, said Christian Leffler, EEAS Deputy Secretary-General at the High-level panel of the European Development Days, held in Brussels on 18-19 June.

This year's European Development Days theme is ‘Addressing inequalities: building a world which leaves no one behind'. It will debate successes and failures in addressing inequalities in the context of the 2030 Agenda and the implementation of the SDGs.

The European Development Days (EDDs) bring the development community together each year to share ideas and experiences in ways that inspire new partnerships and innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. "Addressing inequalities: building a world which leaves no one behind" is the overarching theme at this year's EDDs. Have you registered? If yes, come visit the EEAS while you’re there, we have an interesting screening session prepared for you!
