Dr. Nicole delivered a speech to the distinguished guests mentioning the importance of the human rights work and that 'today, we need to find once again that spirit of global unity. We need to remember there is something that binds us together as human beings, beyond all our differences and disagreements. Seventy years after the adoption of the Universal Declaration we cannot take human rights for granted. On the contrary, human rights and fundamental freedoms have come under new pressure. Things are never achieved once and for all. Human rights are always a work in progress, and every single generation has a specific responsibility''.
The event was well attended by high level Government Ministers, Ambassadors accredited to Eritrea, other members of the Diplomatic Corps, Heads of United Nations Agencies and various EU partners.
Subsequently, the EU Delegation continued celebrating HRD on Monday, 10 December, by screening a video titled ''Amet Wlud'' or Child Care - a video drama about educational opportunities for children with intellectual disabilities. The video shows that children with intellectual development problems/challenges can become self-sufficient and even contribute to their country if they get humane care, access to education and treatment”.
We hope this has inspired many who attended and we believe all of those who have been working on this from the beginning. In sharing the video and screening it across the country, we believe we can make a commitment to continue working together, aspiring to have more and more partners join and strengthen human rights all over Eritrea together with the European Union.
