The Deputy Director and Chief of Staff Military Planning and Conduct Capability (MPCC), Major General Herminio Maio, visited EUTM Mali from 8 to 12 January 2021.

As part of Major General Herminio Maio's visit, he represented the MPCC Director, Vice Admiral Hervé Bléjean at the EUTM MALI Change of Command ceremony, which took place on 12 January in the Bamako Mission Headquarters. During the ceremony, the Mission Force Commander, Brigadier General Frantisek Ridzak (CZ) handed over the command of EUTM Mali to Brigadier General Fernando Luis Gracia Herreiz (ES).

Major General Maio also visited the Koulikoro Training Centre (KTC) where he had the opportunity to meet with EUTM troops, receive briefings on ongoing EUTM Mali activities and visit the contracted Role 2E Medical facilities.

He travelled to MOPTI/SEVARE to meet with the 6th Military Region Malian Force’s Commander and visited the area where a new EUTM Mali training centre is scheduled for construction with significant support from Germany.

During his visit, Major General Maio conducted several Key Leader Engagements with Malian national authorities, meeting the Minister of Defence, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the G5 Sahel Joint Force Commander, and other active key leaders, including the EU Ambassador to Mali, the MINUSCA Force Commander, and the BARKHANE representative in Mali.

Major General Maio re-called with the Malian authorities and all international partners the major lines of EUTM Mali’s 5th mandate, which was well received by all interlocutors. Despite the effects of the pandemic, the EUTM Mission remains highly visible, credible and accepted by the Malian authorities and international partners.
