EU Ambassador Christina Lassen and UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Philippe Lazzarini met today with Prime Minister Saad Hariri ahead of the second Brussels Conference on "Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region."

Discussions focused on the importance for the international community to uphold its commitments, and in particular, the need to pursue efforts to increase support for the host communities who are at the forefront of the Syrian crisis.

وتمحورت النقاشات حول أهمية وفاء الأسرة الدولية بالالتزامات التي قطعتها، وخصوصاً ضرورة متابعة الجهود لزيادة الدعم للمجتمعات المضيفة التي تعتبر في طليعة الجهات المتأثرة بالأزمة السورية.




This year marks the 30th EU-Taiwan Annual Consultations, as well as the 15th anniversary of the European Economic and Trade Office (EETO). As part of the Europe Day celebration, the EETO, Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Economic Affairs Bureau of Foreign Trade are jointly organising the "Forum on 30 years of EU-Taiwan Relations: Review and Prospect".


On Friday 14 April, Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, received Rt Hon Winston Peters, New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs in Brussels.

This was the first meeting between the two counterparts. Ahead of it, Mr Peters said, “Our shared values and commitment to the global rules-based system make the EU an important partner for New Zealand in today’s increasingly uncertain world”.

On an official visit to Albania, EU High Representative Federica Mogherini acclaimed a "collective acknowledgement" of the country's progress towards EU standards and eventual membership, and called for a "collective responsibility" from the leaders, institutions and people of Albania for continued reforms. The European Commission on 17 April recommended opening EU accession negotiations with Albania.

The EU Delegation to NZ is pleased to work with the Victoria University of Wellington and UN Association on the Sustainable Development Goals Summit, to take place on 23 April. The Summit is a cross-sectoral collaboration on efforts to achieve the #SDGs by 2030, also known as Agenda 2030. The #SDGs are universally applicable to all countries and the EU is committed to be a frontrunner in implementing them.
