On 12 December 2017, the EU Delegation in Banjul and the Government of The Gambia co-chaired the 12th consultative meeting under Article 8 of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement, which outlines the specific modalities for a regular, comprehensive, balanced and deep political dialogue between the EU and the partner country- in this case The Gambia. This covers a broad range of topics, most notably the respect for human rights, democratic principles, the rule of law and good governance. This meeting marked the first political dialogue in this format between the European Union and the new government of The Gambia, although the EU and our Gambian counterparts have enjoyed a productive dialogue from the beginning of this Government's tenure and are committed to continue engaging on a wide range of topics.
This year stands out as a year in which the IGAD region has demonstrated to the world its determination to work together in addressing the plight of refugees in the region.
The Special Summit in March in Nairobi broke new ground in bringing Heads of States and Government together for the first time to deliver durable solutions for Somali refugees. You are the first region to apply and champion the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework.
