EU Delegation in Banjul and Gambia Government co-chair Article 8 dialogue under the Cotonou Partnership Agreement

On 12 December 2017, the EU Delegation in Banjul and the Government of The Gambia co-chaired the 12th consultative meeting under Article 8 of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement, which outlines the specific modalities for a regular, comprehensive, balanced and deep political dialogue between the EU and the partner country- in this case The Gambia. This covers a broad range of topics, most notably the respect for human rights, democratic principles, the rule of law and good governance. This meeting marked the first political dialogue in this format between the European Union and the new government of The Gambia, although the EU and our Gambian counterparts have enjoyed a productive dialogue from the beginning of this Government's tenure and are committed to continue engaging on a wide range of topics.
