The crisis in Yemen and the efforts by the EU and UN to bring about peace were centre stage in Brussels Tuesday (5 April) as UN envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed held talks with Federica Mogherini. They discussed ways to support the ceasefire announced for 10 April and the resumption of peace talks in Kuwait on 18 April.

The Netherlands Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels hosted on Tuesday April 5, 2016 a briefing on the effects of criminalization of LGBTI rights. The briefing was organised in cooperation with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Human Dignity Trust.

The First Bangladesh-EU Dialogue on Migration Management was held today at the State Guest House Meghna, Dhaka. Md. Shahidul Haque, the Foreign Secretary led the Bangladesh delegation while the ten-member EU delegation was led by Christian Leffler, Deputy Secretary General for Global and Economic Issues, European External Action Service.

M. Md. Shahidul Haque, secrétaire des affaires étrangères, présidait la délégation bangladaise, tandis que la délégation de l’UE, composée de dix membres, était présidée par M. Christian Leffler, secrétaire général adjoint chargé des questions économiques et mondiales au Service européen pour l’action extérieure.

Thank you. Let me say how glad I am of this meeting, of this visit of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed. The European Union and the United Nations work very well hand-in-hand on many different crisis and this is not exceptional, on the contrary. It is an evident confirmation of the fact that we share visions, strategies and daily work on a daily basis. 

The African Union and the European Union will organise a joint e-Governance Roundtable on on 8 April 2016 at the African Union Commission Headquarters in the margins of the EU-AU Commission to Commission meeting.

The events which took place in Brazzaville today jeopardise the stability of the country during this post-electoral period, while confirmation of the results from the Constitutional Court is pending.
The European Union urges all protagonists to show restraint, refrain from using violence and resolve their disagreements peacefully and in accordance with the law.
Violence cannot be a response to the challenges the country is facing.
