The European Union will invest further €10 million in projects to promote student and staff exchange in Africa under the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme. The second Call for proposals was published on 28 January 2017 with a deadline for submission of applications on 2 May 2017.

A l'occasion d'une escale du navire amiral de l'Opération Atalante de l'Union Européenne à Djibouti du 10 au 14 janvier 2016 et suite à la décision de la Haute Représentante de l'Union Européenne pour les affaires étrangères et la politique de sécurité, le Commissaire Colonel Mohamed Elmi Moussa, Chef du cabinet militaire de la présidence, le Colonel Wais Omar Bogoreh, Commandant de la garde-côtes et le Capitaine Ali Elmi Bouh, officier opérations de la marine, ont reçu chacun la Médaille du service de la Politique européenne de sécurité et de défense de l'Union Européenne. La Cérémonie a eu lieu en présence du vice-amiral Stefano Barbieri, Commandant de la force Atalante et de l'Ambassadeur Joseph Silva.

"The EU recognises the vital role the forestry sector plays in Malawi. Forests are of course necessary for the provision of daily energy needs, to almost all households in Malawi. However, the dramatic floods and droughts that thousands of Malawians experienced the last two years are just a reminder of other important roles forests perform in mitigating against such extreme climatic conditions like water catchment and soil protection"

I strongly condemn the attacks on aid workers of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) working in North-eastern Afghanistan who were shot and killed today while delivering humanitarian aid.

An attack on those who work to help others is an attack on humanity and a grave violation of International Humanitarian Law.

Right now my thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues of those who have lost loved ones and the two other ICRC colleagues who remain missing.
