México y la Unión Europea acordaron celebrar la primera ronda de negociaciones el próximo mes de junio y se comprometieron a avanzar con celeridad en el proceso de negociación, con el fin de contar cuanto antes con un nuevo marco jurídico.

The revision of the Global Accord between the EU and Mexico was at the centre point of a visit by EU High Representative Federica Mogherini to Mexico City on 24-25 May.

Following the recent execution of Patrick Gabaankanye, in Gaborone, Botswana, the European Union recalls its opposition to the use of capital punishment which can never be justified.
 
The European Union believes that the death penalty is a cruel and inhumane punishment and has consistently called for its universal abolition. Experience worldwide has demonstrated that the death penalty fails to act as a deterrent to crime.

It is a pleasure to be here today to open the second High Level Dialogue on Security and Justice. Five years have passed since the first round – and these have not been easy years for the security of many Mexicans and Europeans.

Muchas gracias, Alicia [Ruiz Massieu], por haber invitado a la Unión Europea y a mí personalmente a este acto. Acabo de llegar a México y es un placer comenzar mi visita con tantos amigos aquí y tener la oportunidad de dirigirme no solo a una audiencia mexicana, sino a toda América Latina y el Caribe. We first met in Santiago less than two years ago. I visited the headquarters of Celac and addressed a speech on EU- Latin America, during the Italian presidency of the EU.

The European Union and Indonesia convened the first Indonesia-EU Security Policy Dialogue on 25 May 2016, in Bandung, West Java. The dialogue addressed common challenges such as counter terrorism, counter narcotics, maritime security, organised crime, peacekeeping and disaster management.  The dialogue also served to coordinate efforts to prevent violent extremism and to address its root causes.

Article 8 of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement (between the European Union and the African, Caribbean and Pacific States) establishes a regular and comprehensive political dialogue leading to commitments on both sides. The Dialogue was formally launched in June 2012
