The resumption of the Libyan political dialogue in the coming days will be an important step towards a much-needed political agreement on the formation of a government of national unity and a cessation of hostilities in Libya. I call upon all participants to negotiate in good faith and with a spirit of compromise and reconciliation. 

Military operations endanger the civilian population and further damage civilian infrastructure in the country.


Après la confirmation, par la Cour suprême du Bangladesh, de la condamnation à mort de M. Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, l'Union européenne réitère son opposition au recours à la peine capitale, dans tous les cas et en toutes circonstances. L'UE n'a cessé de réclamer son abolition universelle.

La peine capitale n'a aucun effet dissuasif en ce qui concerne la criminalité et rend toute erreur judiciaire irréversible.



After the confirmation by the Bangladeshi Supreme Court of the death sentence in the case of Mr. Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, the European Union reiterates its opposition to the use of capital punishment in all cases and under all circumstances. The EU has consistently called for its universal abolition.

Capital punishment is not a deterrent against crime and makes miscarriages of justice irreversible.
