On 30 July 2018, the Council extended the mandate of the EU military training mission in the Central African Republic (EUTM RCA) by two years, i.e. until 19 September 2020.

The Council today extended the mandate of EU NAVFOR Somalia Operation Atalanta until 31 December 2020. The Council also decided to relocate the European Union Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) Operational Headquarters from Northwood (UK) to Rota (Spain), and to Brest (France) for the Maritime Security Centre Horn of Africa (MSCHOA) as of 29 March 2019. It appointed Vice Admiral Antonio Martorell Lacave from the Spanish Navy as new Operation Commander to take command from Major General Charlie Stickland on the same date. The relocation and change in command are required due to the UK's decision to withdraw from the EU.




July 29, 2018: The European Union (EU) and Inter Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) today signed a One Million Three Hundred Thousand Euros Grant Agreement to support Inclusive State Formation, National Reconciliation and Political Dialogue in Somalia.


The Agreement was signed on July 29, 2108 in Nairobi Kenya between EU Mr. Fulgencio Garrido Ruiz, EU Chargé d'Affaires and H. E Amb(Eng.) Mahboub Maalim, IGAD  Executive Secretary.


On Wednesday, 3 July 2018, the European Union (EU) and the General Auditing Commission (GAC) of Liberia officially launched a new phase of technical support to the GAC at the Office of the National Authorising Officer (NAO) in the Executive Mansion Grounds. The EU funded project, which has a value of EUR 1.215 million (approximately USD 1.4 million), will continue until May 2020.
