At the 25th EU-Japan summit held in Tokyo, leaders reaffirmed their resolve to work together for the rules-based international order and to promote a free and fair global economy. The summit has been an opportunity to sign the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and the EU-Japan Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA).
The EU stands for free and fair trade. And in a world where global trade accounts for 50% of GDP, we want to
continue to look outwards, rather than turning towards isolationism. The EU is open for business.
The relationship between the European Union and Japan is based upon longstanding cooperation and shared fundamental values and principles such as democracy, the rule of law, human rights, good governance and a market-based economy, benefits to citizens in Europe and Japan.
