The Council took a little bit longer than foreseen - as is the case almost every time - but it was extremely good and fruitful in its results. 

EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy, Mr Miguel Arias Cañete represented the EU at the 6th IRENA General Assembly in Abu Dhabi on 16-17 January, chaired by the Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr El-Markaby. Over 1,500 delegates and observers attended the Assembly and side meetings.

La guerre en Syrie a atteint aujourd'hui un nouveau degré de violence: plus de 400 personnes, dont des femmes et des enfants, auraient été enlevées ou tuées par l'organisation terroriste Daech. S'ils sont confirmés, ces actes effroyables montrent une nouvelle fois qu'il est temps de mettre fin à la guerre civile, désormais entrée dans sa cinquième année, et de mobiliser toutes les forces, à l'intérieur comme à l'extérieur de la Syrie, pour éradiquer la menace posée par Daech.



Today the war in Syria has reached a new level of violence: more than 400 people, including women and children, have been reportedly kidnapped or killed by the terrorist organisation Da'esh. If confirmed, such terrible acts make clear once again that it is time the civil war, now in its fifth year, was brought to an end, and that all inside and outside Syria join forces to eliminate the threat from Da'esh.


High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini met this evening Foreign Minister of Jordan, Nasser Judeh, ahead of Monday's Foreign Affairs Council where the Minister will join his European Union's colleagues for a discussion on EU-Jordanian relations and the situation and challenges in the broader Middle East region.
