"The EU recognises the vital role the forestry sector plays in Malawi. Forests are of course necessary for the provision of daily energy needs, to almost all households in Malawi. However, the dramatic floods and droughts that thousands of Malawians experienced the last two years are just a reminder of other important roles forests perform in mitigating against such extreme climatic conditions like water catchment and soil protection"

I strongly condemn the attacks on aid workers of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) working in North-eastern Afghanistan who were shot and killed today while delivering humanitarian aid.

An attack on those who work to help others is an attack on humanity and a grave violation of International Humanitarian Law.

Right now my thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues of those who have lost loved ones and the two other ICRC colleagues who remain missing. 

Unique EU programme to support refugees and host communities in Turkana County

Fiji’s first community managed cocoa processing unit was launched in Lutu Village, Naitasiri, today.

Current EU support in this area amounts to € 60 million including for rural electrification in Mindanao. But there is a business case too: "in Europe, renewable energy has become most competitive also doing away with dependency and environmental concerns."
