The sixteenth Cooperation Council between the European Union and the Republic of Armenia took place in Brussels on Monday, 18 January.
Both sides reconfirmed their joint commitment to enhance and deepen their cooperation in all areas possible, welcoming the launch of negotiations for a future agreement to replace the current outdated Partnership and Cooperation Agreement. They also welcomed the good progress made in implementing the Mobility Partnership, with the EU reiterating its commitment to enhance the mobility of Armenian citizens.
The implementation of the Twinning Project “Support to the State Maritime Administration to Improve Liability in Maritime Transport in the Republic of Azerbaijan” was officially launched on 15 January. The main purpose of this project is to increase the capacity of the State Maritime Administration in the implementation and application of liability procedures foreseen in the International Conventions concerning maritime safety and prevention of sea pollution in Azerbaijan in conjunction with the legislation of European Union.

EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy, Mr Miguel Arias Cañete represented the EU at the 6th IRENA General Assembly in Abu Dhabi on 16-17 January, chaired by the Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr El-Markaby. Over 1,500 delegates and observers attended the Assembly and side meetings.
