The European Commission (EC) and the Kosovo Government held their last meeting within the Stabilisation and Association Process Dialogue (SAPD) on 31 May. The meeting focused on the economy, financial issues, statistics and financial control. With the entry onto force of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) between the EU and Kosovo, the dialogue framework will be reformed – discussions will take place within the SAA framework, as sub-Committees.
The European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, attends the 8th Summit of African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Heads of State and Government in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea from 30 May to 1 June 2016.
The recent amendments to Nauru's Criminal code abolishing the death penalty and decriminalising homosexuality send a strong signal to other countries in the Pacific region that are yet to do so.
In abolishing the death penalty, Nauru has demonstrated its belief, shared by the European Union as well as many other countries worldwide, in the inherent dignity of all human beings and the inviolability of the human person. The death penalty cannot be justified under any circumstances.
