The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 28 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to Sierra Leone manages cooperation projects in the priority areas of infrastructure, governance, macro-economic support and rural development. The EU cooperation programme in Sierra Leone is presented in the Country Strategy Paper for Sierra Leone (https://eeas.europa.eu/node/4677_en) which has been developed with the national authorities.

It is alarming to learn that several people have been killed and injured during the ongoing protests against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Nigeria.

It is crucial that those responsible of abuses be brought to justice and held accountable.

Following the Government’s will to deliver on reforms, we expect to see decisive implementation.

Third EU-Australia Joint Committee reconfirms strong bilateral links and highlights avenues for further strengthened cooperation.
