The murder of US photojournalist Luke Somers and South African teacher Pierre Korkie earlier today during a rescue operation is yet another terrible example of senseless terrorist violence.

The EU expresses its sincere condolences to their families and colleagues.

We reiterate our firm commitment and continuing contribution to the efforts of the international community to tackle terrorist violence, in Yemen and the broader region.
