The world is facing an education and learning crisis, as currently 124 million children are out-of-school, another 120 million drop out before they reach third grade. More than one in three children are not learning even if they are in school, as they still lack basic literacy and numeracy skills. It is in this context that the EU Delegation jointly with the Permanent Mission of Slovakia, Save the Children and UNESCO organised a side-event to the 33rd session of the Human Rights Council entitled "Education: Reaching the Furthest Behind First".
