The Government of Zimbabwe and the European Union today signed five financial agreements amounting to EUR 89 million under 11th European Development Fund (EDF) 2014 - 2020 National Indicative Programme (NIP) of Euro 234 million.

“EU-China Friendship Garden” inaugurated at Beijing Foreign Studies University

12th May 2015, Beijing - As part of the official celebrations for the 40th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the European Union and the People's Republic of China, the Delegation of the European Union to China, in cooperation with Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), the Embassy of the Republic of Poland and all 28 EU Member States, officially inaugurated "The EU-China Friendship Garden" in a ceremony on the BFSU campus.



High Representative Federica Mogherini spoke to the UN Security Council in New York about the crisis of migrants in the Mediterranean on Monday 11th May. "We are here to share with you the urgent need to face the tragedies unfolding in the Mediterranean" she said. "We are here to act immediately and to act together. We need an exceptional response. The European Union is finally ready to take its own responsibilities: saving lives, welcoming refugees, addressing the root causes of the phenomenon, dismantling criminal organisations".


Le 11 mai, Federica Mogherini, haute représentante de l'UE, s'est exprimée devant le Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies, à New York, sur la crise des migrants en Méditerranée. «Il est urgent de faire face aux tragédies qui se déroulent en Méditerranée», a-t-elle déclaré. «Nous devons agir rapidement et de concert, et apporter une réponse exceptionnelle. L’Union européenne est enfin prête à assumer sa part de responsabilités: sauver des vies, accueillir des réfugiés, s’attaquer aux causes profondes du phénomène et démanteler les organisations criminelles».



The Saudi authorities have proposed to implement a five-day humanitarian truce in Yemen, starting at 20.00 GMT on Tuesday 12 May. In reaction, HRVP Mogherini and Commissioner Stylianides issued the following statement:

"This is an important opportunity to tackle the dramatic humanitarian situation in Yemen, especially now that the country is running out of essential supplies and basic public services are at a breaking point.


The armed conflict in South Sudan has intensified in recent days, exacerbated by a new military offensive in Unity State. Concerned by the humanitarian consequences of the fighting and the difficulties faced by relief organisations on the ground, HRVP Mogherini and Commissioner Stylianides made the following statement:
