Federica Mogherini met in Brussels on Monday (4 April) President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga, who leaves office at the end of the week after 5 year mandate.

They looked at the progress in EU-Kosovo relations over this period, including the entry into force of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement on 1 April 2016.

Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, met this morning with President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, to discuss the progress in EU-Kosovo relations during the President's 5-year mandate which ends later this week. Excellent cooperation with the President contributed to a number of positive steps forward in the EU-Kosovo relations, including the entry into force of the first contractual framework for bilateral relations, the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, on 1 April.

Ce matin, Mme Federica Mogherini, haute représentante de l'Union pour les affaires étrangères et la politique de sécurité et vice-présidente de la Commission européenne, a rencontré Mme Atifete Jahjaga, présidente du Kosovo, afin d'évoquer l'évolution des relations entre l'UE et le Kosovo au cours des cinq années d'un mandat présidentiel venant à terme cette semaine.


Another bomb hit Turkey, this time targeting Diyarbakir in the South East of the country. The High Representative and Vice President Federica Mogherini extended personally, at the margins of the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, the deepest condolences for those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, to president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, also on behalf of the European Union.


Reports of heavy fighting along the line of contact are deeply worrying.

I call on the parties to stop the fighting immediately and observe the cease-fire. The sides must show restraint and avoid any further actions or statements that could result in escalation.

The European Union deplores the loss of life, in particular the reports of civilian casualties and deaths.


Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, spoke this morning with Dr. Ashraf Ghani, President of Afghanistan.

The High Representative and the President agreed on the next steps in preparing for the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan (4-5 October 2016), including the outreach to donors and economic cooperation.

They also discussed the Afghan peace talks and the security situation and agreed to cooperate further in this regard.
